Well hello there...

Hi all, remember me? I know it's been a while between drinks (far too long in fact), but I'm back at long last. To give you a quick recap, my daughter had surgery (and had really rough time of it, poor thing), I've been working non-stop on lots of new pieces, and I also have some really exciting ventures planned (which I'll share as soon as I can). So my little blog has been sadly neglected, as something had to give...well, if I wanted to stay sane anyway. But now I'm back and can't wait to catch up on everything - I've missed you all more than you know!<br /><br />As well as working on lots of new paintings (more on those later), I've been helping mum and dad with the renovation of their bathroom. When I first came across <a href="http://pinterest.com/driftwoodi/">Pinterest</a>, to say I was underwhelmed was a bit of an understatement. It seemed like yet another thing to add to the must-have-if-you're-serious-about-your-online-presence....and all too much like hard work. But then, I spent a bit of time navigating through and found that, regardless of what it was originally designed for, it's an absolutely brilliant way of collating and storing all of those inspiration pics - and even better, it links to where they were found. Can't sleep? Paint!

It's funny how a break in routine can spark a frenzy of activity. You see, one of my babies is off at schoolies this week. For those who aren't familiar with schoolies, it marks the celebration of the end of high school for thousands of Aussie teenagers - I'm guessing it's probably similar to Spring Break in the US? Anyway, it means hoards of kids head off, often to the Gold Coast in Queensland, for a week of non-stop partying. What that also means is a week of no sleep and endless worry for the parents.  And if I can't sleep anyway, I need to stay busy and painting for me is the ultimate stress-buster. Hence the flurry of new work - at least there's one upside to this whole situation. I'm still counting the days until my chicks are all back in the nest (four to go. Not one, but ten new paintings!

Well, it's been a big week. I've packed up and sent nine originals off to the US for a very exciting project (more on that later) and I've finally finished the latest in my 'Interior Portraits' series - 'Modern Vintage'. I absolutely loved Anthropologie's Louisa Settee as soon as I laid eyes on it, and I thought it would look great teamed with a blue and white display on the wall behind. If you look closely you might notice that the china pieces are my own 'Ginger Jar' paintings (and a chinoiserie plate which I'll be sharing soon as well). The blues

This morning, my art studio had a super-fast mini-makeover, ready for some glamour shots. I thought you might like to see how it's looking nowdays, complete with a couple of blue and white paintings you may recognise. Although I didn't have the time (or the team of stylists) to pull off a re-do anywhere near as fabulous as <a href="http://driftwood-interiors.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-good-friend-martha-stewart.html">Martha's</a>, it's nice to change things up once in a while. And while blue is the order of the day now, it will probably sport pinks and oranges next week. He said they loved my blue and white paintings, and would I be interested in sending some to New York for a feature in the magazine? Oh, and they had to be there in under four days. After I picked myself up off the floor, of course I said yes, and then spent the next few hours in a state of panic. Did I mention it was December? Or that the US had extra security in place for checking mail over the holidays? Anyway, I sent them on their way, and today I saw the end result.
